BYD Launched In Europe With 174 Bhp Motor And 194-Mile Range

Meet BYD’s answer to the MG ZS EV, Vauxhall Frontera Electric and Kia EV3: the new Atto 2. It’s expected to cost under £30,000 when launched in Europe and will feature a 45kWh battery, giving a 194-mile range.

Although it shares BYD’s signature design cues, like the neat black strip across the nose, rear LED light bar and rotating central screen, it seems humble when compared to the bigger Atto 3.

It will launch in February although not exact dates have been confirmed.

BYD Atto 2 Batteries And Motors

The Atto 2 will be available with one battery and motor from launch. A 174 bhp motor powers the front wheels, which is less than the Kia EV3 but matches the MG ZS SE and Trophy.

BYD has also confirmed that a larger battery guise will follow in the coming months. This means we could see the 60kWh battery from the BYD Dolphin in this car which should yield around 250 miles of range.

It sits on the e-Platform 3.0 that houses all of the company’s EVs and the battery is integrated into the vehicle chassis, something that’s claimed to improve body rigidity.

BYD Atto 2 Dimensions

Like its competitors, the Atto 2 sits in the compact crossover class and measures 4,310mm long, 1,830mm wide and 1,675mm tall, making it 145mm shorter and 45mm slimmer than its Atto 3 sibling. Think of it as a higher-riding BYD Dolphin alternative.

SUV-like chunky black cladding around the lower half and large front intakes give it serious MG competitor vibes.

BYD Atto 2 interior

Similarly, its interior follows in the footsteps of other BYD products such as the Atto 3 and Seal. Like other cars in the range, the large rotating touch screen is still the focal point and abstract shapes look to be dotted throughout the cabin.

While it’s arguably more exciting than some of its competitors, it fails to outshine the minimalistic interior found in the Kia EV3. Still, BYD has done a fine job at designing a clean cabin while keeping clutter to a minimum. It seats five and is also claimed to have a 400-liter boot.
