The BYD K-Car was spotted without camouflage ahead of its official debut scheduled for the Japanese Mobility Show 2025 on October 30. It will become the company’s entry-level battery electric vehicle. The price tag of the K-Car will start at approximately 2 million yen (13,085 USD).

The BYD K-Car was first spotted in May 2025 as a fully electric vehicle designed for Japanese roads. Key cars (Keijidosha) are Japan’s unique category of compact cars. They must not exceed 3.4 meters in length, 1.48 meters in width, and 2 meters in height, with engine capacity capped at 670 cubic cm. In 2024, the market share of key cars in Japan was 38%. The BYD K-Car will soon challenge this segment.

More about the BYD K-Car

The BYD K-Car was spotted without camouflage in Japan during the preparation for the Japanese Mobility Show 2025. A Chinese blogger nicknamed Sugar Design shared a photo of this model from the side. It is the very first time we see the BYD K-Car without camouflage.

The new vehicle is finished in white body color, boasting blackened pillars. This design feature creates a suspended roof effect. The BYD K-Car also has multi-spoke gray aluminum wheels and rear sliding doors. Other highlights of this car include conventional door handles, blackened side-view mirrors, smoked taillight units, and curvy headlamps. The car adopts a flat roofline, maximizing the cabin space. It also has a relatively long wheelbase with short overhangs.

The source hasn’t released photos of the BYD K-Car from other angles. Previously, it was confirmed that the new car has two rear sliding doors, a large rear window with a wiper, and small slots in the front end. The interior boasts a three-spoke steering wheel and a floating touch screen.

It was previously reported that the BYD K-Car is a battery electric car with a 20 kWh LFP battery on board. Its WLTC range is around 180 km. There is no information about the e-motor. As for the price range, it might start at 2 million yen (13,085 USD). This starting price range was previously teased during the announcement of the cooperation agreement between BYD and Aeon. For comparison, the well-known Honda N-Box starts at 1,782,000 yen (11,650 USD) domestically.
