BYD June Sales in Sweden More Than Double Month-on-Month

Chinese carmaker BYD sold 206 vehicles in Sweden in June, more than doubling its May tally of 76 units, according to figures published on Tuesday by industry association Mobility Sweden.

The result marked a 36.4% increase from the same month last year, when the company registered 151 battery electric and plug-in hybrid vehicles in the Nordic market.

For the first six months of 2025, BYD sold 629 vehicles in Sweden — slightly ahead of the 610 units it delivered in the same period last year.

The company entered the Swedish and German markets in late 2022 through a partnership with Hedin Mobility Group, one of Europe’s largest dealership groups.

While the partnership in Germany was later restructured, Hedin remains BYD’s distributor in Sweden.

The brand’s current line-up in the Swedish market includes the Seal U DM-i, a plug-in hybrid priced from SEK 499,900 ($52,600), and the fully electric Seal U SUV, starting at SEK 544,900 ($57,300). The Seal sedan is priced from SEK 589,900 ($62,000).

The brand’s city compact, the Dolphin, starts from SEK 439,900 ($46,300), and its entry-level SUV, the Atto 3 compact SUV, is priced at SEK 484,900 ($51,000).

Earlier this year, BYD launched the Dolphin Surf city compact in Europe, which became its cheapest model in Europe. However, the model is not yet listed in the Swedish website.

BYD delivered 377,628 passenger vehicles across the globe in June, from which 90,049 units were sold overseas, a new record for the seventh consecutive month.

Sales outside of China more than tripled from the 26,995 vehicles registered overseas a year before.

From those, 754 were sold in Norway, where the brand registered its best sales month in over two years.

In June, 27,565 vehicles were sold in Sweden, from which 10,725 were battery electric vehicles — representing 39.0% of the market. This means that one out of three cars registered in Sweden last month were fully electric.

The best-selling model in the Swedish market last month continued to be the plug-in hybrid (PHEV) Volvo XC60 SUV, with over 1,700 units registered.

Volvo‘s EX/XC40, which is available as both a PHEV and battery electric (BEV) model, accounted for 938 units.

Tesla’s Model Y outperformed Volkswagen‘s ID.7, which was the best-selling EV in May. The U.S. brand’s SUV took the third place in the ranking and was the best-selling EV in June, with 867 units.

Polestar, which is backed by China’s Geely Holding Group but headquartered in Gothenburg, ranked as the tenth best-selling brand in Sweden and set a new sales record in the country with 1,010 EVs sold.

Premium brand Zeekr, sold 155 vehicles in June, up 36 units from May. Its competitor Nio saw registrations fall to 1 unit in the market last month.
