Buy the new Song Ultra EV, and BYD will give you 18 months of ultra-fast charging, for free. With gas prices soaring, electric vehicles are looking even more attractive.
BYD offers free EV charging as gas prices rise
BYD’s new battery and charging tech enable EVs to charge up in as little as 5 minutes, putting them on par with gas-powered cars.
The Flash Charging stations, as BYD calls them, are even set up like a gas station to get vehicles in and out quickly (see it in action in the video below).
With the ability to deliver up to 1,500 kW of power, vehicles equipped with BYD’s new Blade Battery 2.0 and Flash Charging can charge from 10% to 70% in just 5 minutes. Going from 10% to 97% takes just 9 minutes. Even in temperatures as low as 30°C (-20°F), EVs can recharge from 20% to 97% in 12 minutes.
The first batch of vehicles equipped with BYD’s latest battery and charging tech arrived at dealerships across 22 cities in China earlier this week.

To kick things off, BYD is offering 18 months of free fast charging on select models, including the Song Ultra EV. BYD opened preorders for the midsize electric SUV earlier this month, starting at 155,000 yuan ($22,500).
The Song Ultra EV features the new Blade battery and Flash Charging, enabling it to drive up to 710 km (440 miles) under CLTC conditions.
Lu Tian, GM of BYD’s Dynasty Online Sales Division, said that domestic oil prices will rise for the fifth time this year at midnight on March 23.
The price of 92-octane, he said, is expected to rise by 1.6 yuan per liter with many areas returning to the “9 yuan era.”
“Instead of worrying about oil prices every day, it is better to put it in place in one step and completely worry-free. Order the Song Ultra EV now and directly enjoy 18 months of free flash charging, electricity fee-free, most can save nearly 20,000 yuan.”
Electrek’s Take
A year and a half of free charging sounds pretty good right about now, with oil prices surging past $110 a barrel this week and gas prices up by nearly $1.00 in the past month.
According to AAA, the average gas price in the US hit $3.88 on Thursday, up 33% from $2.92 on February 19, 2026.
Electric Vehicles offer a better alternative. As new batteries, powertrains, and charging technologies advance, EVs are becoming more efficient, with longer driving ranges and faster charging speeds. Not to mention, you can charge them using renewable energy sources.
After it stopped building vehicles powered solely by gas engines in 2022, BYD bet on high-tech EVs and PHEVs as the future, and so far, it’s paying off.
BYD ranked sixth in global sales last year, topping Ford for the first time, behind only Toyota, Volkswagen, Hyundai Motor (including Kia and Genesis), GM, and Stellantis.
