BYD Group General Manager Li Yunfei announced that the company will launch its proprietary “Flash Charging” infrastructure internationally by the end of 2026, according to IT-home.
Infrastructure Strategy
The domestic “Flash Charging China” strategy serves as the immediate blueprint for the company’s global expansion. The system utilises an integrated “storage + charging” architecture, featuring 200–300 kWh of energy storage per pile to minimise grid strain.
By December 2026, BYD aims to have 20,000 flash charging stations operational across China. This network includes 18,000 “station-within-a-station” sites co-built with partners like TELD. These sites will ensure 90% urban coverage within a 5 km radius in major cities. The remaining 2,000 locations will be dedicated highway stations. As of March 5, 2026, BYD has completed 4,239 stations. The first 1,000 highway sites are scheduled to be online before May 1, 2026.
Technical Performance
The 1,500 kW single-gun system operates at 1,000V. When paired with the second-generation Blade Battery, compatible vehicles, such as the Denza Z9GT and Yangwang U7, can charge from 10% to 70% in about 5 minutes.
The new battery architecture is specifically engineered for extreme climates. Official data shows it can charge from 20% to 97% in 12 minutes after being stored at −30°C for 24 hours. Under standard room temperature, a 10% to 97% charge completes in 9 minutes.
Market Context
BYD’s focus on high-speed infrastructure comes as the brand recorded a 41.4% year-on-year increase in overseas sales in February, totalling 100,151 units. This international growth contrasts with significant domestic cooling.
Market Positioning
The 2026 overseas sales target of 1.3 million units represents a 24.3% increase over the 1.05 million units exported in 2025. The global launch of the 1,500 kW charging network by late 2026 is intended to provide a competitive advantage in key regions like Europe and ASEAN. With production scaling at plants in Thailand, Brazil, and Hungary throughout 2026, the charging rollout will prioritise markets with established BYD manufacturing footprints to provide a complete ecosystem for international buyers.
