On May 17, BYD launched its e7 all-electric sedan, offering three trims with a price range of 103,800 – 115,800 yuan (14,400 – 16,000 USD) in two CLTC cruising ranges of 450 km and 520 km. BYD’s low-cost e-series targets the younger population and taxi services.
For the exterior, BYD claimed the e7’s closed front face forms a “smiley face” effect. The BYD logo is located in the middle and raised rib lines are on the front hood.
The rear adopts a layered design, paired with a duck tail, a through-type taillight group, and more lights at the bottom. The “e7” label is located on the lower right to indicate the vehicle identity. Traditional door handles are retained, further signaling the vehicle’s low-end status.
Positioned as a medium-size sedan, the BYD e7 has a length, width, and height of 4780/1900/1515 mm, respectively, and a wheelbase of 2820 mm. The car also runs on 16-inch rims.
Power comes from a front permanent magnet synchronous motor with a maximum power of 100 kW (134 hp) and a peak torque of 180 Nm, matched with BYD’s Blade lithium iron phosphate batteries with a capacity of 48 kWh and 57.6 kWh, corresponding to a CLTC range of 450 km and 520 km, respectively. Additionally, the fast charging time is 0.47 and 0.43 hours, respectively. The top speed is 150 km/h.
Inside, the cockpit features a 15.6-inch central control screen, a 5-inch LCD instrument panel, and a flat-bottom steering wheel. The vehicle operating system is supported by BYD’s DiLink 100.
The center console has two layers. The bottom layer comes with two cupholders and additional storage spaces while the top layer comes with several physical buttons and a slot to place mobile phones.
Other configurations include a panoramic sunroof, a trunk with a volume of 528 L, and remote controls for air-conditioning and doors open/close operations.
