BYD (HKG: 1211, OTCMKTS: BYDDY) has reduced the price of its Qin L EV pure electric sedan and added a new variant to counter fierce competition.

The new energy vehicle (NEV) maker announced today on the first day of the Chengdu auto show that two lower-priced variants of the Qin L EV have each been discounted by RMB 10,000 ($1,400), effective until September 30.

The updated starting prices for these variants are now RMB 109,800 and RMB 119,800, down from RMB 119,800 and RMB 129,800 respectively.

Meanwhile, BYD introduced a new variant of the Qin L EV equipped with the DiSus-C body control system, priced at RMB 139,800. This replaces the previously available variant at the same price point.

The new variant also qualifies for the limited-time RMB 10,000 discount, resulting in an effective starting price of RMB 129,800.

It’s worth noting that in China’s fiercely competitive automotive market, limited-time discounts often signal permanent price reductions.

DiSus is BYD’s body control system unveiled on April 10, 2023, initially comprising three variants: the intelligent damping body control system DiSus-C, the intelligent air body control system DiSus-A, and the intelligent hydraulic body control system DiSus-P.

Earlier this year, BYD introduced DiSus-Z for the Yangwang U7 luxury sedan.

The Qin L EV equipped with DiSus-C enhances ride comfort on bumpy roads while improving body stability during cornering and emergency maneuvers.

The new variant also features a high-speed tire blowout stability system. If a blowout occurs at speeds below 140 km/h, it actively controls lateral body deviation to help maintain driving stability.

Launched on March 23, the Qin L EV rivals Tesla‘s (NASDAQ: TSLA) Model 3 in dimensions but targets younger consumers with a lower price point.

Its dimensions measure 4,720 mm in length, 1,880 mm in width, and 1,495 mm in height, with a wheelbase of 2,820 mm.

For comparison, the Model 3 currently sold in China measures 4,720 mm in length, 1,848 mm in width, and 1,442 mm in height, with a wheelbase of 2,875 mm.

All three variants of this BYD sedan feature single-motor rear-wheel drive. The entry-level model’s motor delivers 110 kW peak power and 220 Nm peak torque. The other two variants share a motor with 160 kW peak power and 330 Nm peak torque.

The vehicle can accelerate from 0 to 50 km/h in 4.1 seconds or 3.1 seconds.

The entry-level BYD Qin L EV features a 46.08-kWh battery pack with a CLTC range of 470 kilometers. The two higher-priced variants both utilize a 56.64-kWh battery pack, each offering a CLTC range of 545 kilometers.

It supports fast charging, enabling a charge from 30 percent to 80 percent in 24 minutes.

The Qin L EV comes standard with the God’s Eye C smart driving system, featuring the DiPilot 100 solution. Its hardware includes 12 cameras, 5 millimeter-wave radars, and 12 ultrasonic radars.

This smart driving system supports features such as NOA (Navigate on Autopilot) for highways, automated parking, and remote parking.

BYD sold 344,296 NEVs in July, marking a 0.56 percent year-on-year increase but a 10.01 percent decrease from June, according to its published data.

The Qin family models sold 53,907 units in July, surpassing the Song family to become BYD’s top-selling model. Although this represents a 26.70 percent year-on-year decline while a 22.40 percent increase compared to June.

($1 = RMB 7.1328)

This is expected to enhance the appeal of Nio models and reduce complaints about their relatively low range.
