BYD assembles assisted-driving team, invest over 100 billion yuan in intelligence

According to BYD, the second China Innovation and Technology Gala hosted by China Media Group has kicked off, with BYD invited back on stage. Yang Dongsheng — senior vice president of BYD and head of the Automotive New Technology Research Institute — used extreme-scenario demos and technical briefings to share the latest advances in intelligent technologies.

On stage, Yang said safety sits at the heart of BYD’s intelligent-tech R&D. The «God’s Eye» assisted-driving system shifts driving safety from relying on personal vigilance to relying on system certainty. The goal isn’t to replace the driver, but to be the strongest guardian of safe travel. In July 2025, BYD will roll out the backstop pledge for intelligent parking. At the same time, it is pursuing a «ADAS standard for all» strategy — bringing advanced intelligent driving down to the 70,000-yuan BYD Seagull and, in turn, tripling the assisted-driving installation rate for new energy vehicles versus the start of the year.

BYD says it has assembled a dedicated assisted-driving team of more than 5,000, and plans to invest over 100 billion yuan in intelligence. By December 2025, vehicles equipped with «God’s Eye» will exceed 2.5 million cumulatively, creating China’s largest vehicle-cloud database. The assisted-driving system already generates more than 150 million kilometers of valid driving data per day across varied road conditions. In AI algorithms, BYD is advancing an «AI agent + world model» approach, training in virtual scenarios to handle rare errors and building a data-development-deployment iterative loop.

BYD also said assisted driving and smart cockpits together make up the core of automotive intelligence. Cars today are no longer just transport; they are intelligent agents in an era of ubiquitous connectivity. BYD is moving the car from a «means of transport» to a «life companion,» using deep in-house R&D plus an open ecosystem to enable features such as drone integration and smart-home control.
