Following the exposure on July 17, Buick announced more powertrain specifications of its upcoming Electra L7 EREV sedan, featuring 1,400 km of comprehensive range, 302 km of pure electric range, and 5.9 seconds of 0 to 100 km/h acceleration time. The price tag is expected to be in the 300,000 yuan (41,800 USD) range, which will compete directly with models including the Stelato S9 EREV.
Electra is a new energy vehicle (NEV) sub-brand launched in April this year in China under SAIC-GM’s Buick brand as part of Buick’s strategy to launch only NEVs starting from 2025 on the Chinese market.
Specifically, the EREV system consists of a 1.5T engine (model LD3) that outputs a maximum power of 115 kW (154 hp) and a peak torque of 230 Nm, a front 122 kW (164 hp) electric motor, and a rear 252 kW (338 hp) motor, matched with a 40.2 kWh lithium iron phosphate (LFP) battery. The top speed is 200 km/h. The comprehensive fuel consumption is as low as 0.5 L per 100 km.
In the front, there is a roof lidar and four ultrasonic radars on the front bumper to support the onboard Momenta Level 2 advanced driving assistance system. The official also claimed the Electra L7 is the world’s first mass-produced car equipped with the Qualcomm Snapdragon 8775P smart cockpit chip.
Positioned as a medium-to-large sedan and built based on Buick’s new Xiaoyao architecture, the Electra L7 measures 5032/1952/1500 mm, and has a 3000 mm wheelbase. Xiaoyao is suitable for MPV, SUV, and sedan, covering BEV, PHEV, and EREV, as well as FWD, RWD, and AWD. Equipped with 6C LFP ultra-fast charging battery and a 900V high-voltage platform, 350 km of range can be recharged in 10 minutes.
The curb weight ranges from 2,105 kg to 2,140 kg, depending on the trims. Additionally, the Electra L7 adopts a fastback shape, hidden door handles, chrome-plated lower window frames, rear privacy glass, through-type taillight, a duck tail design, and runs on 235/50 R19 tires.
