Chinese electric vehicle-maker BYD and its local rivals have dramatically disrupted the automotive market, leading to a significant decline in sales for major global brands like Ford, Nissan, GM, and Honda in China. This pattern is expected to extend to scooters and motorbikes, currently dominated by Japanese brands, as electrification efforts lag behind market growth.

CATL and BYD's combined EV battery installations in January amounted to 35.9 GWh, accounting for 55.8 percent of the global total of 64.3 GWh.

The China Passenger Car Association (CPCA) has released the most recent wholesale sales figures for new energy passenger vehicle manufacturers in February 2025. According to the recent data, Xiaomi's February sales exceeded 20,000 units, propelling it into the top ten ranking. Tesla's standing in China, on the other hand, continued to worsen, dropping to sixth place, outside the top five.
