Chery has scheduled a battery-focused technology event that will highlight progress in solid-state battery development, an area many automakers are exploring as a potential next step for electric-vehicle energy systems.
The company said its “Battery Night” presentation will take place on March 18, when it plans to discuss future battery technology and development plans, according to IT-home.
Solid-state battery roadmap
According to the announcement, Chery is developing a full solid-state battery and aims to deploy the technology in 2026 in limited operational scenarios before broader commercialisation.
The company targets mass-market availability in 2027. Solid-state batteries replace conventional liquid electrolytes with solid materials, a design approach widely studied in the EV industry because it may allow higher energy density and improved thermal stability compared with current lithium-ion cells.
Chery indicated that the technology could support an electric driving range exceeding 1500 km, although the testing cycle used to derive that figure was not specified in the source.
Product and technology context
At the company’s Global Innovation Conference in 2024, Chery formally introduced the Kunpeng battery brand, which groups its battery development programs covering hybrid systems, lithium-ion cells, and next-generation battery technologies.
No technical specifications for the solid-state battery have been disclosed so far. Battery capacity, charging architecture, cell chemistry details, and supplier relationships were not stated in the announcement.
Industry context
In a previous development, Chery presented a prototype solid-state battery module targeting an energy density of 600 Wh/kg, highlighting internal research into next-generation battery systems. The prototype was described as part of the company’s long-term electrification roadmap.
Chinese automakers and battery suppliers have increasingly outlined solid-state battery programs as a future technology direction. Industry discussions often focus on pilot vehicle integration later in the decade, while challenges remain in large-scale manufacturing and cost control.
Outlook
The upcoming event may provide additional technical information about Chery’s battery roadmap and development timeline. Industry observers will likely watch to see whether the company reveals engineering details, demonstration vehicles, or supplier partnerships related to the program.
The broader significance of the event will depend on whether measurable milestones are outlined for the pilot deployment phase and how the company positions the technology within its future electric-vehicle lineup.
