China’s largest electric SUV, Nio ES9, was seen during winter tests in the northern region. The ES9 will enter the domestic market this year to become the ultimate flagship of the lineup. It has a body length of around 5.4 meters and a peak power of 697 hp.

The Nio ES9 spy photos were shared by a Weibo car blogger nicknamed Delu Aikaiche. According to his information, the car undergoes cold-weather tests in Yakeshi, Inner Mongolia. It is well-known as one of the coldest places in China, with temperatures dropping below -30°C. The spotted car wears tricky camouflage with painted running lights. However, it’s easy to distinguish the massive ES9 by a LiDAR sensor and two cameras on the roof.

The spotted Nio ES9 adopts a closed front end with a rectangular air intake and large headlamps. It rides on 22-inch multi-spoke wheels and boasts power side steps. The ES9 adopts retractable door handles that will soon be prohibited by the Chinese regulator.  The car also has conventional side-view mirrors and a slightly curved roofline.
