Thailand: Line Man to deploy 50 BYD electric taxis on its ride-hailing platform

The Thai super app has partnered with ITPP Co., Ltd., which provides taxis on both a lease and hire-purchase basis, to develop an electric taxi service under the Line Man EV Taxi programme. Under this programme, ITPP Co., Ltd. is providing the BYD e6 electric taxis to drivers operating on the Line Man platform on five-year lease agreements.

Energy Absolute will provide participating drivers with a 10 per cent cashback when charging their electric taxis at its EA Anywhere charging stations to help reduce operating costs. Through its EV hire-purchase subsidiary, Paypop Co., Ltd., together with Italig Co., Ltd., Energy Absolute has acquired an equity stake in ITPP Co., Ltd. to support the company’s expansion in the energy and electric vehicle sectors.

ITPP Co., Ltd. says it received green financing support from Thai Orix Leasing Co., Ltd. and Kasikorn Leasing Co., Ltd. for the project. It estimates that the 50 electric taxis could reduce CO₂ emissions by approximately 47 per cent, or around 1,800 tonnes of CO₂.

BYD markets its passenger and commercial vehicles in Thailand through a partnership with Rever Automotive. The duo offers the e6 in a single trim with five seats priced at 990,000 baht. The electric MPV features a single front-mounted motor, tuned to produce 70 kW and 180 Nm of torque. A 71.7 kWh LFP battery pack powers the motor and delivers a range of 415 kilometres, according to the WLTC cycle.

Line Man is an on-demand service platform operated by Line Man Wongnai, a joint venture between Japan’s Line Corporation, best known for its social media app Line, and the Thai restaurant review platform Wongnai. It directly competes with Singapore-based Grab.
