Shortly after BYD teased its upcoming Tang 9 D-segment flagship SUV, the new car covered in camouflage was spied in China. The BYD Tang 9 is the mass produced version of the Dynasty-D full-size concept SUV, is likely to be over 5 meters long and 2 meters wide, and be equipped with BYD’s latest set of technologies. The official unveil is scheduled for the first half of this year.

Once launched, the BYD Tang 9 will be available in both BEV and PHEV variants, and compete directly with the other series “9” models such as the Aito M9 and Zeekr 9X SUVs.

BYD teased the Tang 9 and Han 9 in January 2026.

Along with the new BYD Han 9 D-segment executive sedan, both models are targeted to “break through the 200,000 to 300,000 yuan (28,700 to 43,000 USD) market segment” and enter the entry-level segment of the broader luxury vehicle market.

For reference, the Dynasty-D full-size concept SUV adopts BYD’s latest Dragon Face design, featuring a 2.4 meters long through-type light strip in the front and the “Chinese knot” full-width taillight in the rear.

Although covered in camouflage, the BYD Tang 9’s front fascia is visible with a trapezoidal grille at the bottom adorned with chrome trim. A lidar sensor is mounted on the roof, implying advanced driving assistance capabilities. In the rear, a high-mounted brake light is visible.

From the side, hidden door handles, multi-spoke rims, and chrome trim around the windows frames are present.

Furthermore, the interior is expected to adopt a 2+2+2 six-seat layout, with independent seats in the second row.

Currently, public voting to select an official name for the BYD Tang 9 is underway, with options including “Tang 9” and “Great Tang”.

In 2025, BYD’s Dynasty series sold 1.885 million vehicles, including 661,000 units of the Qin series, 180,600 units of the Han, 154,900 units of the Tang, 387,000 units of the Song, and 430,700 units of the Yuan.
