CATL (HKG: 3750, SHE: 300750) saw its share of China’s electric vehicle (EV) battery market rise last month as BYD (HKG: 1211, OTCMKTS: BYDDY) and several smaller players declined.

In November, China’s power battery installations reached a record high of 93.5 GWh, marking a 39.2 percent year-on-year increase and an 11.2 percent rise from October, according to data released today by the China Automotive Battery Innovation Alliance (CABIA).

CATL maintained its top position with 40.87 GWh of battery installations in November, holding a 43.71 percent market share — an increase of 0.71 percentage points from its 43.00 percent share in October.

BYD ranked second with 19.04 GWh of battery installations in November, holding a 20.36 percent market share. This represents a 0.93 percentage point decrease from its 21.29 percent share in October.

CALB (HKG: 3931) ranked third with a battery installation volume of 5.96 GWh in November, holding a 6.37 percent market share. This represents a 0.61 percentage point decrease from its October share of 6.99 percent.

Gotion High-tech ranked fourth in November with 5.89 GWh of installations and a 6.30 percent market share, down 0.34 percentage points from October.

Eve Energy ranked fifth in November with 3.59 GWh of installations and a 3.84 percent market share, down 0.04 percentage points from October.

China’s ternary lithium battery installations totaled 18.2 GWh in November, accounting for 19.4 percent of total installations. This represents a 33.7 percent year-on-year increase and a 9.9 percent rise from October.

Lithium iron phosphate (LFP) batteries recorded 75.3 GWh of installations in November, accounting for 80.5 percent of total installations. This represents a 40.7 percent year-on-year increase and an 11.6 percent rise from October.

CATL, LG Energy Solution, and Svolt Energy ranked as the top three suppliers for ternary battery installations in November, holding market shares of 70.24 percent, 13.25 percent, and 7.66 percent, respectively.

In the LFP battery market, CATL, BYD, and Gotion led installations in November with shares of 37.31 percent, 25.28 percent, and 7.78 percent, respectively.

China’s total production of power batteries and other batteries reached 176.3 GWh in November, marking a 49.2 percent year-on-year increase and a 3.3 percent rise from October.

Ternary battery production in November totaled 36.4 GWh, up 48.4 percent year-on-year and 7.9 percent month-on-month.

LFP battery production reached 139.6 GWh in November, up 49.5 percent year-on-year and 2.1 percent month-on-month.

China exported 21.2 GWh of power batteries in November, comprising 11.7 GWh of ternary batteries and 9.4 GWh of LFP batteries.
