Tesla’s China-made electric vehicle sales surged in November, marking one of the strongest months of the year and signaling renewed momentum for the company in its most important overseas market. According to data from the China Passenger Car Association (via U.S. News & World Report), Tesla sold 86,700 China-made EVs last month, up 9.9% year-over-year. That also makes November 2025 the company’s second-best month of the year so far.
Sales of the Model 3 and Model Y built at Gigafactory Shanghai jumped 41% from October, a sharp rebound following a month where domestic sales dipped but exports hit a two-year high. The November spike aligns closely with Tesla’s ongoing rollout of new long-range models tailored for the Chinese market — products that appear to be resonating with buyers despite intensifying competition from BYD, Xiaomi, Geely, and others.
In recent months, Tesla has strategically expanded its lineup in China. August saw the launch of the Model 3+, offering a record-setting 830 km of CLTC range. Earlier this month, Tesla introduced the Model Y+, now the company’s longest-range SUV with up to 821 km of CLTC-estimated range. And before that, Tesla brought the longer-wheelbase, six-seat Model Y L to market, targeting families and premium SUV buyers.
All three additions seem to be contributing to the recent sales acceleration — so much so that new Model Y orders in China have already slipped into 2026, with the Shanghai factory’s production for the rest of the year fully booked. For a company navigating fierce price pressure and an increasingly crowded EV landscape, Shanghai’s sustained output is becoming a key stabilizer.
While Tesla continues to face mounting challenges from domestic rivals — particularly BYD, which saw overseas shipments hit record highs — its November performance stands out as one of its strongest signs of resilience this year. With a refreshed lineup and soaring demand for its latest long-range models, Tesla appears to be heading into 2026 with solid momentum from its China operations.
