Tesla has officially launched its AC external power adapter for the Model Y L’s new Vehicle-to-Load (V2L) feature in China. The adapter, priced at ¥599 (about $84 USD), allows owners to power external electrical devices using the vehicle’s onboard battery — effectively transforming the Model Y L into a mobile power source.

The launch follows Tesla’s recent 2025.32.300 software update, which began rolling out earlier this month and enabled V2L functionality for the Model Y L for the first time. As detailed in the translated release notes, the feature lets owners “power external devices and appliances through an official V2L adapter,” a product Tesla said would be available soon — and that moment has now arrived.

According to Tesla’s Chinese online store, the adapter connects to the Model Y L’s AC charging port on one end and features a standard Chinese socket on the other. It supports 10A/220V output, carries an IP44 protection rating for resistance to dust and splashing water, and operates over a temperature range of -30°C to 50°C. Tesla notes that the V2L feature only works if the vehicle’s battery has at least a 10% state of charge.

The company warns users to “take precautions to protect it from moisture, water, and foreign objects” and highlights a 4-year or 80,000 km limited warranty under Tesla’s Parts, Body and Repair policy. The adapter is compatible only with the Model Y L and cannot be used with other Tesla vehicles.

Tesla launched the Model Y L in China in August with a starting price of 339,000 yuan (around $47,500 USD). Since its debut, the extended-wheelbase SUV has quickly become a hit among Chinese buyers, helping Tesla rebound from a sluggish summer sales period in the region. Demand has been so strong that new orders are now being scheduled for delivery toward the very end of the year.

The V2L feature adds a major layer of practicality to Tesla’s newest SUV. It enables owners to power everything from laptops and camping gear to small household appliances during power outages. With the Model Y L already being marketed as a family-focused vehicle — offering true three-row seating and a comfort-tuned suspension — the ability to serve as a mobile generator further boosts its appeal for Chinese customers.

Tesla’s growing focus on bidirectional charging also reflects a broader industry trend toward energy flexibility and home integration. The company has already introduced V2L capabilities on the Cybertruck and the refreshed Model Y Performance that launched earlier this year. The Model Y L is the first non-Performance variant in Tesla’s lineup to support the technology.
