BYD has announced the launch of its first pure electric K-car model, which will be unveiled at Tokyo Motor Show.

Recently BYD announced a teaser image for its new pure electric K-car on their Japanese website. This model will officially debut during next year’s Tokyo Motor Show.

Based on released teasers and prior exposure of spy shots, this all-new EV features an «box car» design with square lines recalling classic vehicles commonly seen in Japan streets today. The floating roof style is paired with large windows expected to provide excellent visibility for passengers inside the vehicle. Notably highlighted are its rear sliding doors positioned above hidden wheel arches which not only facilitates passenger entry/exit but also prevents interference from rear wheels during door opening operations at night, both front and rearend feature ring-shaped car lights ensuring high recognizability when lit up

As a unique Japanese automotive category K-cars hold significant market status with approximately 35% of vehicles on the road being this type equivalent to one in every three cars. Their popularity stems from compact size suitable for narrow city streets as well as tax reductions and insurance premium discounts offered through government policies

Compared to other similar models, BYD’s new EV showcases clear advantages by utilizing a pure electric platform which eliminates need of front engine space allowing shorter overall length while enabling longer wheelbase with short overhangs in «four-wheel four-corner» layout that significantly expands passenger area achieving the concept of small body but large interior capacity

This all-new K-car will be equipped 20kWh blade battery. Although its energy storage appears modest, combined lightweight construction can achieve WLTC driving range up to180km according reports BYD’s pure electric model is scheduled for launch at Tokyo Motor Show before being produced in China and exported Japan by second half of next year

Although primarily targeting Japanese market this design concept actually aligns well with mobility needs found within certain Chinese cities. With successful examples like Hongguang MINI EV already present, if introduced domestically BYD’s K-car could fill the gap below Seagull model segment
