BYD’s new 3,000-HP supercar is coming for Ferrari’s throne

Chinese EV developer BYD has a new 3,000-horsepower supercar, and it’s coming for Ferrari’s throne.

BYD released a teaser for its newest hypercar prototype, the Yangwang U9 02, and we got a couple of sneak peeks as well as the announcement that it’s coming with the “World’s Strongest Horsepower”.

Its predecessor, the Yangwang U9 Track Edition, already set a global EV speed record at 293 mph, so it looks as though the 02 prototype may be able to deliver on some of its promises.

Ferrari has been the benchmark for exotic performance cars for over 75 years, but it looks like Ferrari’s crown might be slipping, and for a car that’s half the price of an SF90 Stradale.

When you think of the ultimate supercar, a Ferrari often springs to mind.

But Chinese EV manufacturer BYD has been working on something that has the power to shake up the entire supercar industry.

Following the awe-inspiring performance of BYD’s Yangwang U9 Track Edition, which set a global EV speed record at 293 mph, the EV automaker is trying to outdo itself with its new prototype.

We don’t know a huge amount about the electric supercar, like 0-60 times, range, battery specs or weight, but what we do know is very exciting indeed.

How much will the BYD supercar cost?

BYD is in a position to pose a direct challenge to Ferrari’s throne, not just in raw power, but in tech and overall value.

From information already released, it seems that the starting price will be around ¥1,680,000, which comes to about $233,000.

$233,000 is about half the cost of a Ferrari SF90 Stradale, so you’re getting a lot of high-tech and high-performance for a comparatively low cost.

Despite the lower price, BYD claims it’s more advanced and implies it will be significantly faster than its competitors, boasting a truly mind-bending 3,000-horsepower output.

It looks like the successor to the Track Edition might even break the global speed record it set for EVs.

Only time will tell whether it will live up to its bold claims.
