BYD’s (HKG: 1211, OTCMKTS: BYDDY) ultra-luxury sub-brand Yangwang rolled out its fourth model, the U8L, marking its latest push in China’s luxury SUV (sport utility vehicle) market.

Yangwang officially launched the full-size U8L SUV at an event today, offering only one trim called the «Dingshi Edition.» Its price starts at RMB 1.28 million ($179,690), slightly below the pre-sales price of RMB 1.3 million.

The model — among the most expensive from a Chinese automaker — will begin deliveries in late September.

The U8L is a long-wheelbase version of Yangwang’s first model, the U8 off-road SUV, measuring 5,400 mm in length, 2,049 mm in width, and 1,921 mm in height, with a wheelbase of 3,250 mm.

The standard U8 measures 5,319 mm in length, 2,050 mm in width, and 1,930 mm in height, with a wheelbase of 3,050 mm.

Yangwang offers a gold emblem for the U8L, crafted from 24K real gold to underscore its premium status.

The six-seat SUV is built on BYD’s e4 platform and powered by four electric motors.

Its powertrain delivers 880 kW (1,180 horsepower) and peak torque of 1,280 Nm, accelerating from 0 to 100 km/h in 3.5 seconds.

The U8L incorporates BYD’s DiSus-P body control system — the most advanced of DiSus — for enhanced comfort.

The hybrid model boasts a CLTC battery range of 200 kilometers, with a total range of 1,160 kilometers when fully fueled and charged.

Its smart driving system is BYD’s God’s Eye A, supported by the DiPilot 600 driver assistance solution — BYD’s most advanced offering.

Like the standard U8, the U8L features multiple capabilities including emergency floatation, blown tire stability, and tank turn maneuver.

The U8, Yangwang’s inaugural model, was launched on September 20, 2023, with a starting price of RMB 1.098 million.

On February 25, 2024, Yangwang launched the U9, a two-seat electric supercar starting at RMB 1.68 million.

On March 27 this year, the brand launched its third model, the U7 sedan, priced from RMB 628,000.

Yangwang sold 405 vehicles in August, marking a 30.65 percent year-on-year increase and a 19.47 percent rise from July.

Yangwang sold 77 U8s, 1 U9 electric supercar, and 327 U7 sedans in August.
