CATL (SHE: 300750) saw its market share in China’s electric vehicle (EV) battery sector rise last month, while BYD (HKG: 1211, OTCMKTS: BYDDY) experienced a slight decline.
China’s power battery installations totaled 62.5 GWh in August, marking a 32.4 percent year-on-year increase and an 11.9 percent month-on-month rise, according to data released today by the China Automotive Battery Innovation Alliance (CABIA).
CATL maintained its top position with a 42.35 percent market share, installing 26.45 GWh of power batteries in August. This represented a 0.95 percentage point increase from its 41.40 percent share in July.
BYD ranked second with 13.02 GWh of battery installations in August, holding a 20.85 percent market share. This represented a 0.34 percentage point decrease from its 21.18 percent share in July.
CALB secured third place with 5.03 GWh of battery installations in August, accounting for an 8.05 percent market share. This marked a 0.34 percentage point decline from its July share.
Gotion High-tech ranked fourth in August with 3.67 GWh of installations and a 5.87 percent market share.
Eve Energy ranked fifth in August with 2.74 GWh of installations and a 4.39 percent market share.
China’s ternary lithium battery installations totaled 10.9 GWh in August, accounting for 17.5 percent of total installations. This represents a 10.0 percent year-on-year decrease and a 0.1 percent decrease compared to July.
Lithium iron phosphate (LFP) batteries recorded an August installation volume of 51.6 GWh, accounting for 82.5 percent of total installations. This marks a 47.3 percent year-on-year increase and a 14.8 percent increase compared to July.
CATL, CALB, and Svolt Energy ranked as the top three ternary battery suppliers in August, holding market shares of 72.45 percent, 10.38 percent, and 7.15 percent, respectively.
In the LFP battery market, CATL, BYD, and CALB led August installations with shares of 35.98 percent, 25.27 percent, and 7.56 percent.
China’s total production of power batteries and other batteries came in at 139.6 GWh in August, marking a 37.3 percent year-on-year increase and a 4.4 percent rise from July.
Ternary battery production in August totaled 30.9 GWh, a 23.1 percent year-on-year growth and a 4.6 percent increase from July.
LFP battery production in August reached 108.6 GWh, up 42.2 percent year-on-year and 4.4 percent month-on-month.
China exported 15.1 GWh of power batteries in August, comprising 8.7 GWh of ternary batteries and 6.3 GWh of LFP batteries.
