BYD’s electric supercar, the Yangwang U9, is now the fastest EV in the world, after BYD set an incredible world record with the car’s Track Edition.
The Chinese manufacturer has been making waves in recent times, most notably with models like the BYD Dolphin and the Seal.
But it has gone one better with the new Yangwang U9, coming from the company’s high-performance division, as it has set a new automotive record in Germany.
The car has attained an incredible top speed, breaking all previous records and showcasing just how fast electric cars can really be.

How fast did BYD’s electric supercar go?
The car in question is the Yangwag U9 Track Edition, a higher-performance version of the standard U9.
BYD showcased the supercar earlier in 2025 in Sydney, Australia, and under the hood, it has four electric motors.
The standard version of the U9, which is already on sale in China, produces 1,287hp.
But this Track Edition version makes an incredible 2,958hp, and yes, you did read that right.
Previously, some of the fastest electric supercars in the world included the 268mph Rimac Nevera R and 272mph Aspark Owl.
The standard U9 set a top speed of 233mph in 2024.
With German driver Marc Basseng at the wheel, the U9 Track Edition achieved a speed of 293.54mph.
The EV did this at the ATP Automotive Testing Papenburg test track.
How advanced is the Yangwang U9 supercar?
Under the skin is a 1,200V ultra-high voltage platform, a big step up over many of China’s Western rivals.
In fact, many European EV manufacturers are only just beginning to get used to 800V platforms.
BYD and Yangwang claim this is the world’s first ‘mass-produced 1200V ultra high voltage vehicle platform.’
The U9 also has the DiSus-X Intelligent Body Control System onboard.
This allows the supercar to dance and leapfrog into the air.
But it also serves another purpose.
It helps to keep the U9 as flat as possible through corners and under acceleration and braking.
Other improvements, such as a small rear spoiler and a new carbon fiber front splitter, helped the car achieve its top speed record.
If anything, the Yangwang U9 has shown that electric cars are certainly not boring.
