The Model Y L six-seat electric SUV (sport utility vehicle) has arrived at all Tesla (NASDAQ: TSLA) showrooms in China following its launch yesterday.
«Good news! The Model Y L is now available at all Tesla stores. We invite everyone to visit Tesla stores for more information and test drives!» Tesla wrote on Weibo today.
The US electric vehicle (EV) maker launched the Model Y L in China yesterday, with a starting price of RMB 339,000 ($47,210), and deliveries are expected to begin in September.
Tesla does not treat the Model Y L as a new model, but rather as a variant of the Model Y lineup.
Currently, the five-seat Model Y has two variants in China: the entry-level rear-wheel drive version and the long-range all-wheel drive version, with starting prices of RMB 263,500 and RMB 313,500, respectively.
The Model Y L is a dual-motor all-wheel drive vehicle that can accelerate from 0 to 100 kilometers per hour in 4.5 seconds.
The six-seat SUV is equipped with an 82.0-kWh ternary lithium battery pack from South Korea’s LG Energy Solution (LGES), with a CLTC range of 751 kilometers, making it the longest-range model in the Model Y lineup.
The five-seat Model Y long-range version is equipped with a 78.4-kWh battery pack from LGES, with a CLTC range of 750 kilometers.
Following the official launch of the Model Y L in China, the media review embargo on the model was lifted, and the majority of reviewers gave it positive feedback.
The launch of the Model Y L comes at a time when the Model Y is facing challenges in terms of sales in China.
In January-July, the SUV’s retail sales in China were 202,257 units, down 17.15 percent year-on-year, according to data compiled by CnEVPost.
