Tesla has officially launched its longest-range Model 3 yet in China — the new Model 3 Long Range Rear-Wheel Drive, also known as the “Model 3+” that was unveiled in the country last month. The new variant boasts a massive 830 km CLTC-rated range, equivalent to 363 miles on the EPA cycle, the same figure as the Model 3 Long Range RWD already available in the U.S.
“The new variant has a longer driving range, and it is better in performance and efficiency,” Tesla China said, adding that customers could place orders starting Tuesday, August 12. The Model 3+ starts at 269,500 yuan (about $37,490 USD), which is roughly 14% more than the standard Model 3 in China. Deliveries are set to begin in September 2025.
Filings earlier this month pegged the Model 3+ for its record-setting CLTC range, while also revealing specifications for the new six-seat Model Y L announced at the same event.
Powering the Model 3+ is a 78.4 kWh LG-supplied NMC (nickel manganese cobalt) battery paired with a single 225 kW rear motor. At 1,760 kg, the car’s slightly higher battery energy density (175 Wh/kg) helps it achieve the highest range ever offered by a Tesla in China — and possibly the highest-range EV in the country, period.
Tesla says the Model 3+ delivers improved efficiency and performance, catering to premium EV buyers seeking longer range in a market where battery technology and advanced features increasingly define competition. The launch comes as Tesla faces growing pressure from domestic rivals like Li Auto and Xiaomi, with its share of China’s EV market falling to 3.8% in June from 6.9% a year earlier, according to data from the China Passenger Car Association (CPCA).
Production of the six-seat Model Y L — nearly 5 meters long with a 3.04-meter wheelbase — is set to begin at Tesla’s Shanghai Gigafactory this fall.
