Onvo L90, Nio‘s best-selling model from last week, has expanded its offerings with the introduction of a 60 kWh battery version. This new option is available exclusively through a battery rental scheme.
Onvo L90 achieved 1,976 cumulative deliveries in its first 72 hours, securing a spot in the top 3 large SUV weekly sales. This figure surpasses the combined sales of Li Auto’s L9 and L8 models by 775 units during the same period, according to data from Yiche.
Today, August 11, Shen Fei, Senior Vice President of Nio and President of Onvo, confirmed the availability of the 60 kWh battery option, stating, “Responding to everyone’s request, the L90 can now be chosen with a 60 kWh battery pack.”

With the Battery-as-a-Service (BaaS) option, the L90’s starting price is 179,800 yuan (25,000 USD). The new 60 kWh battery rental plan lowers the monthly cost, priced at 599 yuan (83 USD) per month, a 300 yuan (42 USD) reduction compared to the standard 85 kWh battery pack’s 899 yuan (125 USD) monthly rental.
Furthermore, Onvo offers flexible upgrade options for users who initially choose the 60 kWh battery. After taking delivery, customers can upgrade to the 85 kWh battery pack based on their actual usage scenarios:
- Flexible Upgrade: The 599 yuan (83 USD) monthly battery rental fee is maintained, with additional fees for the upgrade period:
- Daily upgrade: 45 yuan (6 USD) /day
- Monthly upgrade: 800 yuan (112 USD)/month
- Annual upgrade: 8,800 yuan (1223 USD)/year
- Permanent Upgrade: The monthly battery rental fee adjusts to 899 yuan (125 USD).
- Upgrades within one year of delivery incur only a 1 yuan (14 cents) service fee, with Onvo covering the difference.
- Upgrades after one year will be subject to the prevailing service fee standards.
Users with the 85 kWh battery pack can also “downgrade” to rent the 60 kWh battery pack. Onvo had stated that the L90 would come standard with the 85 kWh battery, and there would be no option to purchase a 60 kWh battery outright.
According to data from Onvo, 70% of current L90 buyers have opted for the BaaS solution.
