Men drive 12 electric cars including Tesla and BYD until they die to see how far they can really go

A group of men drove 12 electric cars, including Tesla and BYD models, until they ran out of charge to see how far each EV could go.

The men from What Car? in the UK uploaded their challenge onto YouTube around a year ago, showcasing the real-world range of the EVs.

They aimed to see how closely the real-world range of the EVs matched up to the range that the manufacturers have stated.

The test was a very interesting undertaking. It indicated how far some EVs can go even as they start to run out of battery.

What electric cars were used for the EV test?

The test involved a wide range of electric cars, including the Tesla Model 3, MG4, and BYD Dolphin.

Other cars in the test included a VW ID.7 with a heat pump, a Mercedes EQE 300 Sport, BYD Seal RWD, BMW i5 eDrive40 M Sport Pro, and the Volvo XC40 Recharge.

The Lexus UX 300e Takumi, RZ 450e Takumi, and Jeep Avenger Summit were the other cars in the test.

The test took place at the Milbrook Proving Ground track in Britain, using their massive bowl test circuit.

All 12 cars drove around continuously until they ran out of battery.

Naturally, the winner was the one that lasted longest, but also was closest to its manufacturer’s stated range.

How did the EVs fare in the range test?

The Lexus RZ 450e Takumi failed the test first, as it was the first of the bunch to run out of battery.

Jeep’s Avenger followed the Lexus, but the pair were close when it came to actual mileage.

Tesla’s Model 3 Long Range achieved 293 miles in the test versus the official range of 390 miles.

But the Mercedes EQE 300 Sport was the best of the bunch, with 300 miles traveled.

The official range of the Mercedes is 380 miles.

The Lexus RZ 450e Takumi and Jeep Avenger ranked at the bottom of the list.

BYD’s Dolphin was a few places up, while the Seal was an impressive fourth with 255 miles traveled.

But it was the Model 3 that was the most efficient car, and while costing around $20,000 less than the Mercedes.

It is safe to say these test results were fascinating.
