Tesla (NASDAQ: TSLA) saw slightly higher sales of China-made vehicles last month than in the same period last year, reversing 8 straight months of year-on-year declines.
Tesla China sold 71,599 vehicles in June, including those sold in China and exported to overseas markets, according to data released today by the China Passenger Car Association (CPCA).
This represents a 0.83 percent increase from the 71,007 vehicles sold in the same period last year and a 16.12 percent increase from the 61,662 vehicles sold in May.
In the previous eight months — from October 2024 to May 2025 — Tesla China’s monthly sales, including exports, had all declined year-on-year, according to data compiled by CnEVPost.
Tesla has a factory in Shanghai that produces the Model 3 sedan and Model Y crossover, delivering to domestic customers and serving as an export hub.
Currently, Tesla’s June delivery figures in China and export numbers from the Shanghai factory are not yet available.
In the second quarter, Tesla China sold 191,720 vehicles, including exports to overseas markets, a year-on-year decrease of 6.82 percent, despite a 10.98 percent increase from the first quarter.
This marks the third consecutive quarter of year-on-year decline in Tesla China’s sales, including exports.
In the first half of the year, Tesla China sold 364,474 vehicles, including exports. This represents a decrease of 14.57 percent compared to the 426,623 units sold in the same period last year.
Notably, with Xiaomi (HKG: 1810, OTCMKTS: XIACY) launching its YU7 electric SUV on June 26, sales of Tesla’s popular Model Y could be impacted.
The YU7 is larger in size and more affordable than the Model Y, securing 200,000 firm orders within the first three minutes and over 240,000 locked-in orders within 18 hours.
Xiaomi’s first model, the SU7 electric sedan, is a competitor to Tesla’s Model 3 and has achieved significant success.
Xiaomi delivered over 25,000 vehicles in June, marking the ninth consecutive month exceeding 20,000 units.
