BYD (HKG: 1211, OTCMKTS: BYDDY) will launch the Sealion 06 SUV (sport utility vehicle) in about a month’s time, which will be the latest addition to its popular Sealion family.
The Sealion 06 will officially go on sale by the end of July, offering both hybrid and all-electric variants, local automotive media outlet Auto Home reported yesterday, citing official information.
The model is expected to be priced between RMB 160,000 ($22,280) and RMB 200,000, and will be built on BYD’s fifth-generation DM (dual mode) hybrid technology and the e-Platform 3.0 Evo platform, according to the report.
BYD unveiled its fifth-generation DM hybrid technology with lower fuel consumption and the more integrated e-Platform 3.0 Evo electric platform in May 2024. Its new models are primarily built around these two technologies.
BYD has not yet announced the launch date for the Sealion 06 through its official channels. The model appeared in a regulatory catalog published by China’s Ministry of Industry and Information Technology in April, revealing its core specifications.
The Sealion 06 measures 4,810 mm in length, 1,920 mm in width, and 1,675 mm in height, with a wheelbase of 2,820 mm.
These dimensions are slightly larger than those of the Sealion 05 EV SUV, which measures 4,520 mm in length, 1,860 mm in width, and 1,630 mm in height, with a wheelbase of 2,720 mm.
Its battery electric vehicle (BEV) version offers single-motor and dual-motor options. The single-motor version features a motor with peak power of either 170 kW or 180 kW. The dual-motor version is equipped with front and rear motors delivering maximum power of 110 kW and 180 kW, respectively.
The plug-in hybrid electric vehicle (PHEV) version is powered by a 1,498 ml engine with a maximum power output of 74 kW. It also features a single motor with a peak power output of 160 kW.
The Sealion 06 is expected to further expand BYD’s Sealion family lineup, which currently includes the Sealion 07 EV, Sealion 07 DM-i, Sealion 05 DM-i, and Sealion 05 EV, with starting prices ranging from RMB 102,800 to RMB 239,800.
The Sealion family is one of BYD’s best-selling models, with a record 33,790 units sold in May, contributing 8.83 percent to BYD’s new energy vehicle (NEV) sales of 382,476 units, according to data compiled by CnEVPost.
From January to May, the Sealion family sold 99,313 units. The first model in the family, the Sealion 07 EV, was launched on May 10, 2024.
