In comparison, the Omoda C3 will enter the market at a starting price of $30,000. The design boasts bold and sharp angles with an aggressive looking styling. The model will also be both fully electric as well as hybrid models on offer. It is set to be rolled out by the end of 2026, offering a competitive edge to current vehicles on the road, particularly in the electric vehicle space.
Increasing competition from Chinese manufacturers
Omoda’s up and coming designs at an accessible price point joins the likes of Chinese automobile manufacturing giants BYD and Xiaomi. Further, these automobile companies are providing increased international competition with cutting-edge designs which are reliable and affordable. BYD in particular has been noted for its possibility of usurping the position of Tesla as the dominant electric vehicle manufacturer on the road.
Recently, BYD has overtaken Toyota car sales in Singapore, highlighting the rapidly accelerating growth the company is experiencing in international markets. Next week, the company launches a new all-electric sedan, the e7, with a range of up to 520 kilometers. The car is powered by a single electric motor and reaches a peak power of 100 kW, and can support a maximum speed of 150 kilometers per hour.
Last year, electric car sales in China increased by 40%, contributing to China’s major international growth in electric car sales. In 2021, more than half of global electric car sales came from the Chinese market. In China itself, electric vehicles are far outpacing internal combustion engines, growing by approximately 10% each year. With increased innovation from companies like Omoda and BYD, China is significantly contributing towards the transportation revolution amidst the climate crisis, working towards more sustainable engine solutions to combat climate change and to help the world stay on track for climate targets and goals.
