The BYD-backed ADAS equipment supplier Robosense revealed the EM4 LiDAR sensor with 2,160 beams (lines). It is two times more than the recently released 896-line Huawei sensor. At the same time, Robosense announced that it had become an exclusive supplier of LiDAR sensors for 11 new cars unveiled on March 5.
CarNewsChina previously reported that BYD aims to equip every car in its lineup with an optional LiDAR sensor. Even the entry-level BYD Seagull will be available with an optional LiDAR-based DiPilot 300 (“God’s Eye B”) assisted driving system. This ADAS package costs 9,900 yuan (1,435 USD) on mass-market models.

Robosense became the exclusive supplier of LiDAR sensors for the newly revealed eleven BYD models. This list includes the BYD Song Ultra EV, the BYD Sealion 06 EV, the BYD Seal 07 EV, the BYD Seal 08, the BYD Great Tang (Datang), the Denza Z9 GT, the Yangwang U7, the Yangwang U8, the Yangwang U8L, the Fang Cheng Bao Ti3, and the Fang Cheng Bao Ti7.
It isn’t surprising BYD chose Robosense as the exclusive supplier since the companies have a long-running partnership in China. BYD entered into a strategic cooperation with the mentioned LiDAR provider, investing in the ADAS capabilities. It seems that all upcoming BYD models will also feature Robosense-made sensors.
More about Robosense LiDAR
In the recent press-release, Robosense officials shared that its newest EM4 LiDAR has the ability to offer 2,160 beams as the top-of-the-line customizable solution. Other available configurations cover variants with 520, 720, and 1080 beams that are suitable for different assisted driving systems. The EM4 sensor could be used in both passenger cars and robotaxis.
On March 4, Huawei launched its latest LiDAR sensor with 896 beams. The Chinese IT giant said that it is the world’s highest-spec LiDAR in mass production. It can clearly identify objects with a height of 14 cm from 120 meters. Robosense didn’t provide specific information about the EM4 sensor with up to 2,160 beams. However, it will potentially provide a higher-definition picture.
Aside from BYD, EM4 LiDAR sensors have been deployed on vehicles such as the IM LS9, the IM LS6, and the Zeekr 9X new energy crossovers. It is worth noting that Robosense entered into a strategic cooperation with Geely’s high-end brand Zeekr in 2021.
