Mazda has officially announced UK pricing for its new Mazda 6e electric sedan, with deliveries expected to begin this summer. The vehicle is essentially the Chinese-market Mazda EZ-6, developed on the Changan EPA electric hybrid platform and largely a Mazda-fied version of the Deepal SL03.

The Mazda 6e comes equipped with a 78 kWh LFP battery pack offering an official range of 560 kilometres (348 miles). It supports fast-charging technology, allowing the battery to charge from 10% to 80% in 24 minutes. The power configuration features a rear-mounted motor producing 254 horsepower.

What has sparked discussion is the vehicle’s pricing structure across different markets. The Mazda 6e will start at 38,995 GBP in the UK, which falls within the reasonable price range for mid-size electric sedans in Europe. However, a comparison with Chinese pricing reveals a stark contrast.

In China, the identical vehicle (branded as Mazda EZ-6) starts at 159,800 Chinese yuan (16,900 GBP). This means the UK price is approximately 2.3 times higher than in China for essentially the same product.

While it’s well established that Chinese-manufactured electric vehicles sold domestically typically come with more competitive pricing, the difference is noteworthy. The European Union has imposed higher tariffs on Chinese electric vehicles to maintain competitive fairness, but the UK has not followed the EU’s approach with punitive tariffs on Chinese-manufactured vehicles.

Despite the higher prices for UK consumers, Chinese automotive brands are rapidly expanding their presence in Britain. According to data from the Society of Motor Manufacturers and Traders (SMMT), Chinese car brands sold 187,800 vehicles in the UK during the first eleven months of 2025, representing 10% of the total 1.87 million vehicles sold. This figure represents double the market share compared to the same period in 2024.

This rapid expansion demonstrates the increasing acceptance of Chinese-manufactured electric vehicles in the UK market, even with the significant price premium compared to their domestic pricing.
