The updated BYD’s Yangwang U7 luxury sedan with a 150 kWh LFP battery will consume 17.7 kWh per 100 km, energy consumption homologation revealed. This BEV will boast a pure electric range of 1,006 km. The 2026 model year Yangwang U7 will enter the market shortly.

The Yangwang U7 was initially launched in China in March 2025 with a starting price of 628,000 yuan (90,050 USD). It became the third model under BYD’s luxury car brand. The U7 began deliveries in May 2025 with cumulative deliveries of 1,866 units, according to China EV DataTracker.

In October 2025, the Chinese Ministry of Industry and Information Technology exposed specs of the updated Yangwang U7 during the domestic homologation process. It appeared that the new model would get the optional power upgrade from 960 kW (1,287 hp) to 1,000 kW (1,341 kW). In December 2025, it was revealed that the updated U7 will have a 150 kWh battery pack.

Updated Yangwang U7 energy consumption

The updated Yangwang U7’s energy consumption was revealed in China, as this model obtained the energy consumption label in China as a necessary regulatory step. It was revealed that this vehicle, equipped with a 150 kWh battery, has an energy consumption of 17.7 kWh per 100 km.

For comparison, the ongoing model with a 135 kWh LFP battery has an energy consumption of 19.7 kWh per 100 km and an electric range of 720 km under CLTC conditions. BYD managed to reduce the U7’s energy consumption by 10% despite the fact that the car’s weight rose by 100 kg. It resulted in a 206 km declared range increase.

It is worth noting that only the standard trim level of the updated Yangwang U7 with four electric motors with a combined peak power of 960 kW has a range of 1,006 km. The more powerful variant with 1,000 kW can run up to 860 km in BEV mode, the regulator’s data revealed.

The U7 also has a PHEV variant with a 2-liter engine on top of four e-motors. The battery is a 52.4 kWh LFP pack, good for 200 km of electric range. Thanks to a 60-liter fuel tank, the U7 can run up to 1,000 km. The U7 boasts rear-wheel steering, hydraulic suspension, and the electronic vertical body control system. The U7’s price lies between 628,000 and 708,000 yuan (90,050 – 101,525 USD).

Editor’s comment

BYD’s energy efficiency achievement with the Yangwang U7 is truly impressive. This vehicle is equipped with four independent electric motors. The significantly lighter Xiaomi SU7 Ultra, with three electric motors, consumes 16.5 kWh per 100 km.

Previously, the industry rule was that a larger traction battery would lead to increased energy consumption due to increased weight. This created a vicious cycle of stagnant range. But BYD has changed this rule.
