On January 23rd, three sedan’s exterior design patents from Huawei were revealed by the China National Intellectual Property Administration (CNIPA). Under the Harmony Intelligent Mobility Alliance (HIMA) with traditional Chinese automakers, Huawei is involved in the product definition, exterior and interior design, core component supply, quality management, and sales channels.

The first was a fastback sedan model filed in January 22, 2022. The design is similar to Luxeed’s sedan series such as the Luxeed S7.

The closed front fascia features a through-type light strip, split headlights, and a elongated triangular grille in the bottom. The rear exhibits a wide body stance.

The second was a large luxury sedan filed on February 16, 2023. Notably, the front roof has a lidar and digital side mirrors. Unlike the first patent, this model adopts a longer hood design, and resembles the Maextro S800.

The third was an executive sedan filed on February 8, 2023. The front features an inwardly recessed closed grille, narrow sharp headlights, a through-type light strip, and a trapezoidal grille in the bottom. The rear taillight design echoes that of the headlights. A roof lidar and hidden door handles are both present. The quarter glass is also smaller than the previous two designs.

After Chinese automakers see market success through their collaborations with Huawei, more are joining this collaboration trend including GAC via the Qijing brand, SGMW’s Baojun via the Huajing brand, and Dongfeng via the Yijing brand.

“For automakers, it has become clear that it will be quite difficult to succeed without utilizing advanced technologies and management practices like those offered by Huawei,” according to Ji Xuehong, director of the Automotive Industry Innovation Research Center at North China University of Technology.
