Chinese media have recently circulated spy shots of an upcoming Xpeng Mona SUV, sparking discussion about whether the runaway success of the Mona M03 sedan can be replicated in a larger form. The photos, though low resolution, strongly suggest that the SUV version shares its underpinnings with the M03, much like the relationship between Tesla’s Model 3 and Model Y. The overall silhouette appears more upright, with a raised roofline and a fastback-style profile that echoes a coupe-SUV.
Xpeng’s M03 sedan has emerged as a central pillar in the company’s sales surge. According to recent reports, cumulative deliveries of the Mona M03 have reached 180,000 units, and it has held the top spot in China’s pure-electric A-segment for 12 straight months. In October alone, the M03 reportedly sold 16,309 units, leading all Xpeng models in retail volume for the month.
Based on early speculation, the SUV may initially appear to mirror the M03’s technical layout, though analysts generally expect upgrades in power or range to align with its larger body. This approach would help differentiate it from the sedan and meet SUV-segment expectations for added utility and capability.
Xpeng has also confirmed that the Mona lineup will enter the European market in 2026 as part of a broader global rollout. The M03, priced at just under 120,000 yuan (approximately 16,700 USD) in China, has become a major contributor to Xpeng’s volume and will serve as the foundation for its international expansion. As part of its “In Europe, With Europe” strategy, Xpeng is establishing an R&D centre in Munich and evaluating local production options to mitigate potential EU tariffs.

Editor’s comments:
Pricing will be critical for the Mona SUV. The M03’s strong value positioning set expectations for the entire lineup, meaning the SUV must maintain competitive pricing while offering clear improvements in space, versatility, or technology. If the model ends up being a lightly modified M03 with minimal structural or functional enhancements, it risks falling short of the demands of the SUV segment. With EV subsidies continuing to decline and purchase tax adjustments expected next year, competition is likely to intensify across the segment. If Xpeng can balance pricing, product upgrades, and its software-driven strengths, the Mona SUV could extend the M03’s momentum and play an essential role in the company’s broader market ambitions.
