The third-gen Nio ES8 full-size electric SUV will launch in China in autumn 2025. This year’s traditional Nio Day was moved from winter to autumn to align with the “delivery rhythm of blockbuster products”. The new ES8 NT3 boasts a peak power of 697 hp, a 925V high-voltage system, and 5C fast charging.
The third-gen Nio ES8 was first exposed by the Chinese Ministry of Industry and Information Technology in June 2025. On the same day, this brand shared official images of its flagship crossover. On July 3, Nio shared that the new ES8 will enter the Chinese market in autumn. Its launch ceremony will be held at the Nio Day 2025.
Nio Day 2025 moved from winter to autumn
Typically, Nio Day events were held in winter, near the end of the year. During these events, Nio shares its achievements, launches new products, and releases new technologies. Since the first Nio Day 2017, this event has been the company’s main event. This year’s Nio Day 2025 was moved to autumn. The automaker explained this move with three reasons.

The first cause is a more suitable climate for gatherings. Secondly, it is a more flexible location and venue selection. Last but not least, it is a necessity to match the delivery rhythm of new models. Nio underlined in its official media that there is no better place to launch the third-generation ES8 than Nio Day. The specific date of this event will be announced later.
More on Nio ES8 NT3
The third-generation Nio ES8 stands on the new NT3 modular architecture that underpins the previously launched ET9. Its front end got a smaller air intake and larger headlights. The ES8 NT3 has no plastic trim around the wheel arches. Other fine exterior features include a roof-mounted LiDAR, blackened pillars, and a single LED taillight unit.

The third-gen Nio ES8 measures are 5280/2010/1800 mm with a wheelbase of 3,130 mm. For clarity, it is 181 mm longer, 21 mm wider, and 50 mm higher than the previous model. The Nio ES8 NT3 goes standard with a dual-motor 4WD for 520 kW (697 hp). It also adopts a ternary NMC swappable battery. The car’s top speed is limited to 220 km/h. The new ES8’s interior adopts two layout variants for six and seven seats.
Another ES8’s highlight is the 925V high-voltage system. It allows the car to support 5C rate fast charging. It means the battery can handle a charging power five times its capacity. The peak charging current reaches 765 A while the peak charging power is 600 kW. The ES8 NT3 can charge 250 km in five minutes. The car also supports the battery swap technology that replaces a depleted battery with a full one in three minutes.
There is no information about the third-generation Nio ES8’s pricing. The second-gen SUV costs 498,000 – 598,000 yuan (69,500 – 83,460 USD) in China. However, the ES8’s sales volume from January to May 2025 was just 2,270 units. This company urgently needs to update its newest product to boost the demand.
