The EV registrations were mainly down in the first week of June in China. Nio was down 12%, Xiaomi was down 44%, Tesla was down 34%, and BYD was down 8% compared with the week before.
Onvo registered 1,200 units, Firefly 500, bringing Nio Group registrations to 4,330, down 19.8% from last week.
The weekly sales were published by Li Auto. However, Li Auto ceased publishing them in March 2025 after the China Association of Automobile Manufacturers (CAAM) “recommended” that Li Auto, media and any third parties end it. CAAM says weekly data “undermines the industry order” and “fuels vicious competition.” Since then, Li Auto has published only its own weekly EV registration.
The weekly data are used by consultants, analysts, or investors to see the sales trend and forecast monthly deliveries. They show how many cars were registered for road traffic, which can be later compared with automakers’ self-reported monthly sales, which, unlike registrations, include cars for showrooms, test cars, and other uses.
Most of China’s media have followed CAAM’s recommendation to stop publishing weekly figures. CarNewsChina continues to publish weekly insurance registrations, based on China EV DataTracker data.
The numbers are rounded and present new energy vehicle (NEV) sales, the Chinese term for BEVs, PHEVs, and EREVs (range extenders). To be completely precise, it also includes hydrogen vehicles (FCEVs), but their sales are almost non-existent in China.
Week 23 of 2025 (W23) was between June 2 and 8.
BYD registered 54,850 vehicles, down 8.3% from 59,800 units the week before, and rose 3.88% from 52,800 units in the same week last year.
Leapmotor registered 8,800 vehicles, up 4.8% from 8,400 units the week before, and surged 131.58% from 3,800 units in the same week last year.
Aito registered 8,790 vehicles, down 13.8% from 10,200 units the week before, and fell 1.24% from 8,900 units in the same week last year.
Tesla registered 8,640 vehicles, down 33.7% from 13,040 units the week before, and fell 28.00% from 12,000 units in the same week last year.
Li Auto registered 8,270 vehicles, down 31.1% from 12,000 units the week before, and fell 24.13% from 10,900 units in the same week last year.
Fang Cheng Bao registered 4,490 vehicles, up 24.7% from 3,600 units the week before. No comparable year-over-year data is available.
Xiaomi registered 4,370 vehicles, down 44.0% from 7,800 units the week before, but rose 108.10% from 2,100 units in the same week last year.
Xpeng registered 4,190 vehicles, down 42.6% from 7,300 units the week before, and rose 132.78% from 1,800 units in the same week last year.
Deepal registered 3,880 vehicles, down 26.8% from 5,300 units the week before, and rose 55.20% from 2,500 units in the same week last year.
Zeekr registered 3,200 vehicles, down 22.0% from 4,100 units the week before, and fell 23.81% from 4,200 units in the same week last year.
Nio registered 2,630 vehicles, down 12.3% from 3,000 units the week before, and fell 24.86% from 3,500 units in the same week last year.
Onvo registered 1,200 vehicles, down 14.3% from 1,400 units the week before.
Firefly registered 500 vehicles, down 50.0% from 1,000 units the week before.
Denza registered 2,300 vehicles, down 28.1% from 3,200 units the week before, but rose 9.52% from 2,100 units in the same week last year.
Avatr registered 1,740 vehicles, down 27.5% from 2,400 units the week before.
