BYD has unveiled its upgraded Tang L SUV at the 2025 Guangzhou Auto Show, known internationally as the Atto 8 or Sealion 8, combining cutting-edge EV technology, advanced driver-assistance features, and bold new styling. The model arrives in six variants, with post-subsidy prices ranging from 214,800 yuan (≈ 30,250 USD) to 274,800 yuan (≈ 38,620 USD), offering both plug-in hybrid and fully electric powertrains, according to Y-Auto.

The updated SUV retains BYD’s Dragon Face design language, with modified front “dragon whiskers” for a flowing, dynamic look. The D-pillar has a unique design to improve natural light and sightlines for third-row passengers, and the roof is equipped with a lidar unit to enhance intelligent driving capabilities. At the rear, the tail lamps draw inspiration from Chinese culture: the “Phoenix Wing” variant mimics the shape of phoenix feathers, while the “Bamboo Craft” design reflects traditional weaving techniques.

Inside, the cabin features a palace-inspired layout with layered 3D-cut surfaces and bamboo-wood trim, blending clean modern lines with subtle cultural references. The dashboard is structured with sharp, sculpted surfaces that give the interior a sense of depth and sophistication. All variants come standard with the God’s Eye B high-level laser-based DiPilot 300 driver-assistance system.

Powertrain options include both plug-in hybrid (DM) and fully electric (EV) models. The hybrid version combines BYD’s fifth-generation DM system with a 1.5 T engine producing 115 kW. Two- and four-wheel-drive variants are available, with electric motors generating up to 200 kW per axle. The hybrid can accelerate from 0–100 km/h in approximately 4.3 seconds, with a CLTC electric-only range of 175–215 km.

The EV versions offer single- and dual-motor setups. The dual-motor model produces 230 kW at the front and 580 kW at the rear, with 0–100 km/h acceleration in 3.9 seconds. All EVs are equipped with a 100.531 kWh second-generation lithium-iron-phosphate blade battery, providing CLTC ranges of 560 km, 600 km, and 670 km, depending on the configuration. The EVs use BYD’s Super e platform with full-domain kilovolt architecture, supporting peak charging power up to 1,000 kW, which BYD states can add approximately 370 km of range in five minutes.

The launch also featured new cabin software and user-interface updates, including DiLink 150 with adaptive brightness, customizable seasonal themes, and three interactive mascot characters. Advanced driving features now include “parking-spot to parking-spot” autonomous navigation, allowing the vehicle to exit a space, navigate barriers, and park at the destination without manual input.
