2025 J.D. Power NEV quality ranking, BYD below average, Tesla and Aito in top 3

Aito, Mercedes-Benz, and Tesla ranked among the top three in the 2025 J.D. Power New Energy Vehicle Product Quality Index. However, the main BYD brand was slightly below average. The survey covered 57 brands with over 5,700 responses from car owners who had owned their vehicles for between 2 and 12 months.

Specifically, Huawei’s Aito M9 SUV under the Harmony Intelligent Mobility Alliance (HIMA) was the overall highest quality model across the sedan, SUV, and MPV categories.

In particular, the Aito M9, M8, and M7 models ranked top three in the mid-size and larger SUV category, followed by the Li L8 and Voyah Free.

In the mid-size and smaller SUV market, the top five models were the Avatr 07, BYD Seal 05 EV, BYD Atto 2 (Yuan UP), Tesla Model Y, and BYD Atto 3 (Yuan Plus).

The Tesla Model 3 came in first in the mid-size and smaller sedan market, followed by the Nio Firefly, BMW i3, Geely Galaxy EX2 (Xingyuan), and BYD Seal 06 GT.

In the mid-size and larger sedan market, the top three models were the Xiaomi SU7, Luxeed S9, and IM L6.

Furthermore, in the MPV market, the Voyah Dream ranked first with the lowest quality risk index, followed by the BYD Denza D9 and Great Wall Motor Wey Gaoshan.
