In a recent social media post, Zeekr VP Yuhui Zhao shared the presence of the Zeekr X (see specs) on Japanese roads, sharing an image of the vehicle with proper registration. This sighting suggests preparations for Zeekr’s official entry into the Japanese market, in line with earlier plans to introduce the Zeekr X and Zeekr 009 (see specs) by 2025.
The Zeekr X was seen driving in Tokyo, indicating the company is moving forward with its Japanese launch. According to industry reports, Zeekr will initially open dealerships in Tokyo and the Kansai region. Zeekr X and Zeekr 009 will be available in right-hand drive to meet local traffic requirements.
The right-hand-drive Zeekr X was first introduced in Thailand in August and is currently sold in two versions priced at 1.199 million and 1.349 million baht (approximately 36,260 and 40,800 USD). In comparison, the model starts at around 20,500 USD in China.
The Japanese version of the Zeekr X retains the same design as the model sold in China, including a closed grille and split-type headlights. It measures 445 cm in length, 183.6 cm in width, and 157.2 cm in height, with a wheelbase of 275.1 cm.
The interior features a minimal layout dominated by a 14.6-inch central touchscreen used for most controls and a digital instrument display.
The powertrain options available in Japan will match those offered in China. The single-motor, rear-wheel-drive variant delivers 268 horsepower and provides a CLTC-rated range of either 418 km or 560 km, depending on the battery configuration. Based on the specific setup, the dual-motor all-wheel-drive version generates 422 horsepower and provides a range of 512 km or 499 km.
Zeekr has expanded into nearly 30 international markets, including Sweden, the Netherlands, Thailand, Mexico, and Australia. By the end of 2025, the company aims to reach 50 global markets.
In Japan, Zeekr will become the second Chinese automaker to enter the Japanese EV market after BYD, which currently offers four models in 2024.
The Zeekr 009, a large electric MPV built on an 800V architecture, will launch in Japan in 2025. It offers a maximum range of up to 900 km and has reportedly secured over 3,000 pre-orders in China, leading the premium MPV segment above 55,000 USD.
