The Volkswagen ID. Unyx 08 electric crossover with Xpeng tech on board commenced presales in China at 239,900 yuan (34,760 USD). This model is positioned as a “developed in China for China” product. The ID. Unyx 08 boasts a body length of 5000 mm, an ADAS for 1,500 TOPS, 730 km of range, and a peak power output of up to 496 hp.

Volkswagen began mass-production of the ID. Unyx 08 at the Chinese plant in Anhui on March 13. This vehicle stands on the ID. Evo concept car, which was introduced in April 2025 at the Shanghai Auto Show. Volkswagen officials call this vehicle the ID. UNYX 08 with upper case letters. However, we at CarNewsChina prefer to write its name in lowercase, as Unyx isn’t an acronym.

The Volkswagen ID. Unyx 08 electric crossover started presales in China on March 26 with a price range of 239,900 – 299,900 yuan (34,760 – 43,450 USD). For clarity, the FAW-Volkswagen-made ID.4 Crozz costs 149,900 – 243,600 yuan (21,720 – 35,340 USD) before discounts. And the bigger ID.6 is priced between 205,900 and 283,900 yuan (29,835 – 41,135 USD).

The first batch of clients can book the car for 99 yuan (14 USD) and enjoy a 2,000 yuan (290 USD) discount, a free home charging station, and a lifetime warranty. The car’s launch date has yet to be disclosed. CarNewsChina expects this vehicle to officially enter the market at the Beijing Auto Show 2026 in late April.

The Volkswagen ID. Unyx 08 is the first Volkswagen-Xpeng co-developed model. Its market debut is quite important as Volkswagen Anhui previously had a bumpy road in China with a row of unsuccessful releases. The German brand is still holding the lead in the ICE sales. However, its new energy vehicle segment clearly has room for improvement.

The Volkswagen ID. Unyx 08 will rival such cars as the Xiaomi YU7, the Zeekr 7X, the Avatr 07, the Li Auto i6, the Luxeed R7, and other Chinese models. Its segment is quite crowded at the moment.

The Volkswagen ID. Unyx 08 is a large crossover with exact dimensions of 5000/1954/1672 mm and a wheelbase of 3,030 mm. Its exterior styling is out of the brand’s ordinary design language. The car has a closed front end with split headlights. Its daytime running lights look like two thin stripes made of 400 independent LED beads. They support different animations.

There are glossy black panels on the ID. Unyx 08’s front fenders and doors. They don’t have a particle function, just visually elongating the car’s front end. From the back, the new vehicle has two taillight strips, a backlit brand logo, and a roof spoiler. Other highlights include hidden door handles, roof racks, plastic trim on wheel arches, and sculpted rear fenders. The ID. Unyx 08 rides on 20 or 21-inch rims.

An assisted driving system is one of the car’s core features. It stands on Xpeng’s Vision-Language-Action smart-driving solution. This ADAS relies on information from eleven cameras, three mm-wave radars, and twelve ultrasonic radars. They send information to a chip with a peak computing power of 1,500 TOPS with the VLA (Vision, Language, Action) model. The car can perform the Navigate On Autopilot (NOA) on urban roads and highways.

Interior & Powertrain

The car’s interior adopts a block of two 15-inch screens. The vast majority of modern Chinese new energy vehicles offer the same layout. There is a small LCD instrument panel behind a two-spoke double-D-shaped steering wheel. The gear shifter sits on the steering column, leaving space for two wireless phone chargers on the center tunnel. The car’s front seats adopt power adjustments, 10-point massage, ventilation, and heating. Another feature is a 6.7-liter refrigerator.

The car’s infotainment system is powered by the Snapdragon 8295P chip. The vehicle adopts an AI voice assistant that supports offline voice control. Another highlight is the Unyx Sound system for 20 speakers. The car’s rear seats adopt power-adjusted backrests. The trunk’s standard volume reaches 766 liters. For clarity, it is 106 liters more than the five-seat BMW X5 (G05) provides. With the rear seats folded, the ID. Unyx 08’s trunk volume reaches 1,845 liters.

The entry-level ID. The Unyx 08 uses a single electric motor at the rear axle, delivering 230 kW (308 hp). The all-wheel-drive configuration adopts two e-motors with a combined output of 370 kW (496 hp). Two CATL-made LFP battery options are available in 82.4 and 95 kWh capacities. The range is 630 – 730 km under CLTC conditions. The ID. Uny 08 could be charged with 315 kW DC, adding 150 km of range in five minutes.
