US battery electric vehicle (BEV) manufacturer Tesla celebrated a major milestone, with production at its Shanghai Gigafactory in China surpassing four million units this week, six years after the first car rolled off the production line.
The Shanghai plant is Tesla’s first overseas vehicle assembly facility, with production launched in December 2019. Last year the facility, which makes the Model 3 sedan and Model Y SUV, accounted for almost half of Tesla’s global deliveries.
