The sporty Qijing-branded wagon from Huawei and GAC undergoes winter tests in China with temperatures below -30°C. It will enter the market soon with the latest Huawei tech on board, aiming to be comparable with models priced at around 1 million yuan (~140K USD).
The Qijing wagon (or shooting brake) broke covers on December 24 last year as the brand’s officials shared an official video of this vehicle completing handling tests. It was revealed that the Qijing will adopt the ADS 4 assisted driving system from Huawei. It is considered the L3-ready model. On January 29, Qijing officially shared photos of their wagon during cold-weather tests in China.
Qijing wagon winter tests
Qijing CEO Liu Jiaming prefers to call this model “coupe shooting brake” due to its body shape with a curved roofline. He shared that the Qijing wagon began winter tests in northern regions with temperatures dropping below 30°C. The car will undergo 33 complex road conditions tests to ensure its quality and safety. The brand’s officials didn’t provide any description of these tests.
Qijing decided to offset the lack of information with appealing pictures of their first car in snowy landscapes. Camouflage film covers its body. The Qijing wagon adopts a streamlined body outline with sculpted rear fenders, a low beltline, and a sloped hood. The car adopts flush door handles that comply with the latest requirements of the Chinese regulator.
The front end of the Qijing wagon features an active air intake located in the center of the front bumper. Two more air ducts sit on the sides of the bumper to enhance the brakes’ cooling. Oval-shaped headlamps could be seen through the camouflage. From the back, the Qijing wagon has a single taillight strip and a roof spoiler.
More about Qijing
The first car from Huawei and GAC has a LiDAR sensor on the roof. Two more LiDAR sensors are located in the front fenders, as the car adopts the latest ADS 4 system from Huawei. It is said to be capable of conditional automation without requiring human constant monitoring in specific situations lice traffic jams.
It is worth noting that the Qijing sits quite close to the ground. However, in December’s video clip, it had a higher ground clearance. It indicates that the Qijing has air suspension on both axles. It would be a good practical feature, especially bearing in mind that the doors of the Qijing wagon don’t cover the thresholds.
There is no information about the specs of the Qijing first vehicle. However, it has a single charging port cover on the left rear fender. Huawei & GAC position it as a dynamic car with an intelligent chassis. CarNewsChina assumes it is a battery electric vehicle with all-wheel drive.
It seems that the Zeekr 7GT (domestic name is 007 GT) from Geely will be the core rival of the first Qijing car. In this case, the new station wagon will cost below 300,000 yuan (43,100 USD).
