Nio’s updated EC6 and ES6 electric SUVs are arriving at dealerships across China. Showroom display units are now available following the start of pre-orders on May 10. Buyers can reserve a unit with a fully refundable 5,000 yuan deposit (approximately 690 USD). At the same time, early adopters are eligible for incentives, including 240 free battery swap sessions over five years and 10,000 Nio Points, worth about 1,000 yuan (140 USD).
The updated EC6 and ES6 feature minor exterior design changes. These include revised headlight clusters, more prominent front air intakes, and newly designed wheels. The EC6 continues to offer its distinctive coupe-style silhouette with an active rear spoiler.
More significant updates can be found inside. A new 15.6-inch AMOLED central display now adopts a horizontal layout, replacing the earlier vertical orientation. All models come standard with a windshield-projected head-up display, while the centre console has been redesigned to include dual wireless phone chargers. Other enhancements include the latest NOMI 3.0 voice assistant and Nio’s in-house NX9031 computing platform for advanced driver assistance. Higher trim levels introduce premium materials such as Nappa leather and Alcantara, although overall interior dimensions and layout remain unchanged.
No mechanical changes have been announced. The EC6 and ES6 retain their dual-motor all-wheel-drive setup, delivering 360 kW of combined output. Battery options remain the same, with 75 kWh and 100 kWh packs providing CLTC ranges between 500 and 630 km. The long-range 150 kWh pack is expected to remain optional. Charging speeds and battery swap compatibility are unchanged.
Initial demand has leaned toward the ES6, likely due to earlier media exposure. Dealerships report receiving 10 to 20 pre-orders per location within the first two days. This interest comes as Nio works to clear its remaining 2024 inventory, which currently carries discounts exceeding 70,000 yuan (9,700 USD), including trade-in bonuses.
Most dealerships have already sold out of the outgoing ET5T. The few remaining units mainly feature less common option combinations. Nio is sticking to its usual sales strategy of not running parallel inventories, meaning only the refreshed models will be available once existing stock is gone.
The refreshed EC6 and ES6 are expected to keep similar pricing to the outgoing versions. They will compete in a crowded EV SUV segment against rivals like the Tesla Model Y and Zeekr 7x. The official launch is set for May 16.
With 23,900 vehicles delivered in April, up 53% year over year.
