The Onvo L90 full-size SUV from Nio earned five stars in the C-NCAP crash and safety evaluation test in China, scoring 91%. The large family crossover became the fourth safest car evaluated in the Middle Kingdom this year. Only Zeekr Mix, Xiaomi SU7, and Aito M8 had performed better.
The Onvo L90 was launched on July 31, 2025. It rapidly became one of the company’s bestselling vehicles. Its price range lies between 265,800 and 306,800 yuan (37,715 – 43,535 USD). Moreover, customers can reduce the L90’s price with the BaaS (Battery as a Service) battery rental plan to 179,800 – 220,800 yuan (25,515 – 31,330 USD).
The C-NCAP crash and safety evaluation test is organized by the China Automotive Technology and Research Center (CATARC). The C-NCAP includes tests for vehicle occupants, vulnerable road users, and safety assistance functions. Models in these tests are evaluated on a scale from 0 to 100%. And then those percentages are converted into stars to make the result more understandable.
The C-NCAP evaluated the entry-level Onvo L90 Pro 6-Seat trim level. This vehicle adopts an 85-kWh ternary NMC battery pack and a single electric motor in the rear axle for 340 kW (456 hp). Its retail price is 265,800 yuan in China. Tested cars were bought anonymously at a random dealer with the agency’s money.
Onvo L90 safety performance
The Onvo L90 earned five stars in the C-NCAP with an exact performance of 91%. It is the fourth-highest result among cars evaluated by the 2024 safety standard. The Onvo L90 scored highest in the Occupant Protection Segment: 95.98%. It is 4.38% higher than the average result of the segment. It comprises frontal and side collisions.
The Onvo L90 got 78.64% in the Vulnerable Road Users Protection. It includes headform and legform tests, and the AEB Car-to-Pedestrian & Car-to-Two-Wheeler evaluation. Interestingly, the Onvo L90’s result was 0.65% lower than the average performance of cars evaluated by C-NCAP. The Active Safety segment scored 92.86%, which is 6.29% higher than average. It included various AEB Car-to-Car tests as well as a headlights evaluation.

The Onvo L90 boasts a 240 L front trunk and a 430 L rear trunk. The car’s interior adopts two layout variants for six (2+2+2) and seven (2+3+2) seats. The L90 offers an 8.86-liter refrigerator, a 17.3-inch screen for the rear passengers, and 23 speakers.
