MG announced that its newly launched MG4 electric vehicle has received more than 26,000 orders within 15 days of its market launch in China, surpassing the company’s earlier estimated monthly production capacity of 15,000 units. To meet demand, SAIC Passenger Vehicle’s production base has initiated a three-shift schedule to expand output while stating it will prioritize maintaining product quality.
At the same time, MG has introduced what it calls a “Peace-of-mind delivery commitment.” Under the plan, if a customer’s vehicle is not ready for delivery within 39 days of the final order confirmation, the company will provide a compensation of 50 yuan (approx. 7 USD) for each additional delayed day, with a maximum subsidy of 2,000 yuan (approx. 280 USD). Deliveries will reportedly follow the sequence of confirmed orders to ensure fairness.
The new MG4 was officially launched at the Chengdu Auto Show in late August 2025. The model is available in five trims with a limited-time subsidized price range of 65,800 yuan (approx. 9,140 USD) to 99,800 yuan (approx. 13,860 USD). Built on SAIC’s E3 pure electric platform, the MG4 is positioned as a compact electric hatchback. It comes with a six-in-one integrated electric motor producing a maximum output of 120 kW and a top speed of 160 km/h.
Battery options include a 42.8 kWh Lithium Iron Phosphate (LFP) pack and a larger 53.9 kWh version. These provide CLTC-rated driving ranges of 437 km and 530 km, respectively. Both variants support fast charging, allowing a 30% to 80% charge in about 20 minutes. MG offers a semi-solid-state battery for the top trim, Anxin Edition.
In terms of dimensions, the MG4 measures 4,395 mm in length, 1,842 mm in width, and 1,551 mm in height, with a wheelbase of 2,750 mm. Exterior highlights include a redesigned front fascia with illuminated MG branding, arrow-shaped rear lights inspired by the MG Cyberster, and six available body colours. Entry-level models feature 16-inch wheels, while higher trims offer upgraded alloys.
Inside, the MG4 is equipped with SAIC’s co-developed MG x Oppo Smart Connectivity system. Depending on trim, it comes with either a 10.25-inch, 12.8-inch, or 15.6-inch central infotainment screen, paired with a digital instrument cluster. Higher-end models are powered by a Qualcomm Snapdragon 8155 chip and Horizon Journey J6e platform, enabling functions such as high-speed NOA (Navigation On Assist), lane-keeping, automated lane changes, and parking assist.
The MG4 competes in China’s compact EV segment against models such as the SAIC Volkswagen ID.3, which starts at 129,888 yuan (approx. 18,000 USD), and the Baojun Cloud, starting at 95,800 yuan (approx. 13,300 USD).
