The Li Mega electric MPV suddenly ignited and was completely burned down in China on October 23. A fire broke out in the car’s chassis, where the CATL-made battery sits. Flames covered the BEV in ten seconds. Li Auto entered the investigation alongside the fire department.

Li Mega entered the Chinese market in March 2024 as the brand’s first battery electric vehicle. It has a CATL-made Qilin ternary NMC battery on board and supports 5C charging technology. According to China EV DataTracker, Li Auto has sold a cumulative 25,817 units of this multi-purpose vehicle. In September 2025, Mega deliveries reached the all-time high of 3,277 units. However, a sudden fire incident could influence this vehicle’s market performance.

On October 23, the Li Auto Mega caught fire in China while cruising in Xuhui District, Shanghai. According to Dianchejie, there was no collision before the fire broke out in the car’s chassis. There is a possibility that the battery pack became the source of ignition. Flames rapidly covered the car. Luckily, the Mega’s doors opened automatically, allowing a driver and a passenger to quickly leave the cabin.

Li Auto officials reported that they sent personnel to the site to actively cooperate with the fire department’s investigation. New photos show that the car was completely burned down, leaving a metal body frame. Xuhui Fire Department confirmed the ignition but didn’t disclose details. Li Auto customer service reported that they were verifying information.

It is worth noting that at least two more Li Auto Mega minivans caught fire in China since June 2025. However, both incidents were caused by external factors. The new ignition case raises concern as no definitive conclusion has been reached.
