BYD leak shows Flash Charging app as 1,500 kW network prepares nationwide

BYD appears to be preparing a Flash Charging app interface as it accelerates nationwide deployment of its megawatt charging network. Circulating screenshots of the circulating interface show plug-and-charge capability and Sesame Credit payment integration with BYD’s ultra-high-power charging stations, though BYD has not officially announced a public release.

CarNewsChina reported that BYD is preparing to debut its 1,500 kW megawatt charger at its March 5 technology event, alongside Blade Battery 2.0, DM 6.0 hybrid system, and God’s Eye 5.0 driver-assistance system. The timing of the newly surfaced Flash Charging app suggests the software layer could be formally introduced during the same event, where the company is expected to detail next-generation charging architecture.

CarNewsChina also reported that BYD is scaling up the installation of its liquid-cooled megawatt flash chargers, branded as “megawatt flash charging.” Hardware disclosed in February referenced 1,360 kW peak output units already entering deployment, while nameplate images shared this week show a maximum rated output of 1,500 kW and a current capability of 1,500 A. Earlier leaked technical documents cited configurations reaching 2,100 kW under specific dual-gun scenarios.

BYD’s megawatt system is built around a 1,000 V architecture targeting charging times comparable to gasoline refuelling. Under ideal conditions, domestic coverage cited the ability to add approximately 400 km of range in around five minutes using the 1,000 V and 1,000 A configuration. BYD has not released a formal standardised charging time certificate within the past 90 days.

BYD plans to deploy more than 4,000 self-operated fast charging stations nationwide, with cooperation partners such as XiaoJu Charging contributing to a broader network of more than 15,000 stations. Station formats reportedly include flagship hubs and satellite installations, though exact provincial distribution data has not been published.

The Flash Charging app interface shown in circulating images indicates automatic vehicle authentication upon plugging in, reducing reliance on QR code scanning. The displayed payment methods include Sesame Credit (operated by Ant Group, which allows deposit-free activation and automatic payment settlement via Alipay) and stored user benefits. Chinese app store listings show that the primary BYD App already integrates charging-station search and vehicle-control functions, suggesting that flash charging capability may be integrated as a module rather than a standalone product.

China’s public DC charging infrastructure remains concentrated in the 250 kW to 600 kW band according to February industry summaries, placing BYD’s disclosed 1,360 kW to 1,500 kW hardware above mainstream deployment levels. Several domestic OEMs have moved toward 800 V platforms with peak charging above 500 kW, but megawatt-class public chargers remain limited in large-scale rollout.
