SAIC-GM Buick officially announced today that the pure electric version of its Electra Encasa family, the Buick Electra Encasa Pure EV, is scheduled for release in the first half of 2026. Currently, the Electra Encasa is available exclusively as a plug-in hybrid (PHEV) model, offered in two configurations with prices ranging from 439,900 to 469,900 yuan (61,800 to 66,000 USD).

The Buick Electra Encasa made its global debut at the 2025 Guangzhou International Automobile Exhibition and is the first MPV under Buick’s new-energy Electra sub-brand, built on the company’s “Xiaoyao” architecture. This model is also the sixth-generation GL8.

The Buick Electra Encasa Pure EV has already completed its declaration with China’s Ministry of Industry and Information Technology (MIIT), revealing a design largely consistent with the currently available PHEV variant.

The side profile is three-dimensional, featuring multiple overlapping waistlines. At the rear, the vehicle is distinguished by its iconic “light feather flame” taillight design.

In terms of dimensions, the new pure electric model measures 5260mm in length, 2000mm (or up to 2023mm) in width, and 1835mm (or 1820mm) in height, with a generous wheelbase of 3160mm.

For the powertrain, the Electra Encasa Pure EV will feature a dual-motor setup, with a front motor delivering 332 kW (445 hp) and a rear motor providing 150 kW (201 hp). Regarding range, according to the MIIT’s disclosure, the vehicle will offer two pure electric range options: 601 km and 632 km.

The model features Buick’s latest “Xiaoyao Intelligent Drive” advanced driving assistance system powered by Momenta’s R6 flywheel large model algorithm, enabling urban NOA (Navigation on Autopilot) assistance. At its heart is Qualcomm’s latest SA8775P chip, delivering 72 TOPS of computing power.
