Recently, a camouflaged Hongqi off-road SUV was spotted during its winter testing. This will be Hongqi’s first off-road vehicle and equipped with four electric motors.
Judging from spied photos, the vehicle maintains the conventional boxy design for an off-road SUV, and features Hongqi’s large front waterfall-style grille design. Other notable elements include a roof-mounted lidar for advanced driving assistance capabilities, round headlights, traditional door handles, roof racks, and externally rear-mounted spare tire. It is over 5 meters long with a 2950 mm wheelbase.
Previously released official information indicates that the vehicle is equipped with four electric motors, three differential locks (front, center, and rear), and has a 0 to 100 km/h acceleration time of around 4 seconds.
Once launched, consumers will be able to select from five different configuration options: standard factory, optional factory, factory accessories, pre-installed interfaces, and aftermarket.
Last year, Hongqi already debuted the vehicle at the 2025 Shanghai Auto Show and kicked off the public naming campaign. Hongqi promised that when the new car is launched, the finalist will receive a free vehicle with the license plate number 001.
As of last October, the top 10 names selected in the naming contest were: Lion, Kunlun, 1927, Mountains and Rivers, Jinggang Mountain, Kyushu, Aoshi, Rongyao, Jinzhao, and Guanshan. “Mountains and Rivers” received the most votes, followed closely by “Kunlun” and “Jinggang Mountain”.
At this time, the official market entry date and detailed powertrain specifications have not been announced.
For reference, in January 2026, the Tank 300 topped the hardcore off-road sales chart with 3,929 units sold, followed by the Beijing BJ40 with 3,118 units sold and the Beijing BJ40 EREV with 2,455 units sold. We are eager to see how will the Hongqi off-road SUV perform on the market once launched.
