The Nissan NX8 electric crossover rolled off the production line at Dongfeng-Nissan’s facility in Guangzhou. The new model will enter the domestic market shortly with BEV and EREV powertrain variants and prospects for overseas debut.
The Nissan NX8 is the third product in Dongfeng-Nissan’s electric N-series, launched last year. It currently comprises the N6 and the N7 sedans. According to China EV DataTracker, the cumulative sales volume of these models reached 52,769 units. On January 28, Dongfeng-Nissan began mass production of the NX8 SUV. Its market launch is scheduled for March-April this year.
Nissan NX8 rolled off the production line
Nissan officially shared that the first mass-produced NX8 crossover rolled off the production line in China on January 28, finished in a purple press color. Its assembly kicked off at the Dongfeng-Nissan plant in Huadu, Guangzhou. It is the major production facility of this JV with an annual production volume of 600,000 units.
The first mass-produced NX8 has a “000001” inscription in the license plate. It hints that the company aims to turn the NX8 into a bestseller with the total sales volume nearing 1 million units. This ambitious goal also hints at the Nissan NX8’s overseas prospects. It was previously said that Dongfeng-Nissan JV will export its electric cars to Southeast Asia, the Middle East, and other regions starting in 2026.
More about the Nissan NX8
The NX8 is the first electric Nissan-branded SUV developed in China. It stands on the same platform as the N7 sedan. Dimensions of the NX8 are 4870/1920/1680 mm, with a wheelbase of 2,917 mm. It follows the V-motion design language with a 2.4-meter LED halo running light strip in the front.
The NX8’s interior boasts a dual-screen layout, a two-spoke steering wheel, a stalk gear shifter, and two wireless charging pads. The car offers a head-up display and an assisted driving system with a LiDAR sensor. It is capable of the Navigate On Autopilot (NOA) function on urban roads and highways.
The Nissan NX8 comes with two powertrain variants. The first is EREV with a 1.5-liter turbocharged ICE for 109 kW (146 hp) and three battery variants for 20.3 kWh, 21.1 kWh, and 37.4 kWh. An electric motor for 195 kW (261 hp) spins the car’s rear wheels. The electric range of this modification lies between 102 and 185 km, respectively.
The all-electric variant of the NX8 has two powertrain options with e-motors producing 215 kW (288 hp) and 250 kW (335 hp), respectively. This variant has two battery packs for 73 and 81 kWh. The NX8 EV can run up to 565-650 km on a single charge.
